Female Trauma in Horror Cinema: A SeedTalks Presentation

Why does horror feel so real, especially for women? What if the scariest stories on screen aren’t so far from everyday life? Horror has always reflected the anxieties of its time. From Cold War paranoia to digital-age fears, the genre evolves alongside society. But when viewed through the lens of women’s experiences, a deeper pattern emerges. Many threats in horror, such as stalking, domestic violence, and sexual violence, mirror real-world issues women face today. These stories don’t just entertain, they echo lived realities.

This talk explores how horror cinema becomes a powerful space to confront these experiences. Through films spanning decades, we’ll examine how fear, control, and survival are represented on screen, and how the genre gives shape to emotions that are often difficult to express. At the same time, horror can offer something more: a way to witness resilience, reclaim agency, and challenge the structures that create fear in the first place.

Stream opens at 6:30pm, talk starts at 6:35pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
